At Gunner, we took some time to poke around with some new techniques! I'm really excited with how this little experiment turned out. Once Ian designed the illustration, we knew we wanted to incorporate some mix of 2D/3D elements, but weren't sure how it would look. I blocked out the rough timing of the spinning top in cel, animated it left to right in AE and got the character moving. Once I finalized the character animation in AE, I made the final spinning top in C4D, which is when we realized it should refract the 3D character through the glass shapes! Luckily Nick figured out how to transfer my AE nulls into 3D and recreated the character without having to re-animate too much.
